Governor’s Office Awards Grants to Three SLC Schools

The Governor’s Office of Student Achievement (GOSA) selected Feldwood Elementary, McNair Middle, and Woodland Middle schools for participation in the Fiscal Year 2019 Discover, Design, Develop (D3) Schools Project. Fulton County Schools board member Kimberly Dove congratulated the South Learning Community on their selection at the June 21 board meeting.

All three schools will receive $8,000 to further refine their improvement program plans.

“The additional funds will support our efforts to significantly improve student achievement in the South Learning Community,” said Area Superintendent Dr. Gyimah Whitaker. “Our teachers, community partners, parents and staff are all committed to meeting our students’ academic and social-emotional needs, which these resources will address.”

The South Learning Community Schools will receive funding for:

  • Math Institute of Feldwood (MIF), Feldwood Elementary
  • Treating the Trauma Within: Using Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) to Begin the Healing Process, McNair Middle
  • Woodland Welcome Wagon, Woodland Middle

The grant is awarded from August 16, 2018 to June 4, 2019.

As D3 School Project grantees, Feldwood, McNair, and Woodland will participate in a series of GOSA-facilitated workshops to refine their ideas. When schools complete the D3 Schools Project planning process, they will be able to apply for up to $20,000 to pilot the program they developed. This pilot will occur during the 2019-2020 school year.

The D3 Schools Project invests in schools and districts addressing challenges and developing programs in the priority areas of Birth to Age Eight Language and Literacy, Coordinated Community Services, Elementary Mathematics Teaching and Learning, and Positive Learning Climate.
